Development of environmental management mechanism in Myanmar

The paper outlines the major efforts in developing the environmental management mechanism in Myanmar. It covers the inception of a national level organization established to handle the environmental issues of the country: why it is not so effective as intended, examines the current laws and policies designed to address these issues, discusses the current practices in environmental conservation and identifies new initiatives to integrate environmental policy objectives into sectorwise development policies.
